Now while some are busy buying Bitcoin, Bill Gates the 4th richest person in the world is buying farmland, so much in fact that some are saying he is now America’s biggest owner of farmland. To be exact he has bought 242,000 acres of farmland across the US. Now, you are probably asking yourself why would he do that?

Well his interest in agriculture is nothing new, in 2008 the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation announced $306 million in grants to promote high-yield, sustainable agriculture but the target back then was sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. Still, his plans for the US are unknown to us.

Before our thoughts rush into conspiracy theories, this is probably just his way of diversify his portfolio and rightful acknowledgment of the value the land has and will have in the future. Of course this probably isnt’t good news for small farm owners, lets hope the big guys won’t completely takeover.

The biggest pieces of Gates’ holdings are found in Louisiana and Arkansas, where he owns 69,071 acres and 47,927 acres.
